The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office arrested three suspects for rape after receiving information from Fayetteville Police Department.

On November 10, 2017, Sheriff’s Office Human Trafficking Detectives were notified of a rape that occurred in the county at 2272 Carbine Street by Fayetteville Police. Sheriff’s Office Detectives contacted the victim and inquired about a posting of a sexual assault that was on her Facebook page.

The victim recounted the event that took place November 2, 2017, explaining to the detectives she had posted an ad for companionship online. She was contacted by one of three men asking for a date. When she arrived at the Carbine Street address for the date, she was greeted by James Haywood; Haywood escorted her through the residence to a rear bedroom where Jason Hammonds and Branden McKenzie were waiting. The suspects displayed handguns and demanded the victim’s money. After empting her pockets, the victim was told to remove all of her clothes. The three suspects then made the victim perform sexual acts.

Approximately a week after the violent sexual assault and robbery she was not sure where else to turn so she turned to social media and told her story to Facebook live.

Detectives were able to corroborate the victim’s account and arrested the three suspects November 12, 2017.

21 year old James Haywood III, whose address is listed in the 2100 block of Ladyslipper was charged with First Degree Forcible Rape, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, First Degree Kidnapping, and Felony Conspiracy.

18 year old Jason Tyquan Hammonds, whose address is listed as the 2200 block of Carbine Street is charged with First Degree Forcible Rape, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, First Degree Kidnapping, Felony Conspiracy First Degree Forcible Sex Offence and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

17 Brandon McKenzie, whose address is listed as the 5600 block of Hardwick Lane was charged with First Degree Forcible Rape, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, First Degree Kidnapping, Felony Conspiracy and First Degree Forcible Sex Offence.

All three suspects were booked into the Cumberland County Detention Center, Haywood received a 1.5 million dollar secured bond, Hammonds received a 2 million dollar secured bond and McKenzie received a 2 million dollar secured bond.

Detectives have concerns that this is not an isolated incident and believe there may be other victims who not have reported being robbed and assaulted by these three suspects. The Sheriff’s Office is requesting anyone with information on other incidents to please call (910) 323-1500.
