Crimestoppers Tip Leads to Seizure of Rifle from Convicted Felon and Child Abuse Charges

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Central District Community Empowerment Response Team (CERT) have charged and arrested two (2) suspects in connection with the investigation of an anonymous Crimestoppers tip.

 

On Monday, April 22, 2019, Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department were investigating an anonymous tip at a residence along the 300 block of Suzanne Street, which was submitted through the Crimestoppers Website. During the investigation officers were able to corroborate the anonymous information and subsequently obtained a search warrant for the residence.

 

The following items were seized as a result of the investigation and search warrant:

 

  • AK-47 Style Rifle
  • Nearly 1 pound of Marijuana
  • Numerous items of Drug Paraphernalia

 

 

Sergio Weeks

 

Sergio F. Weeks (B/M, 32 years of age), of the 300 block of Suzanne Street in Fayetteville, was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, Felony Maintaining a Dwelling for Narcotic Use, Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Child Abuse. Weeks was processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center and has since posted bond.

 

Alysha Smith

 

Alysha J. Smith (B/F, 25 years of age), of the 300 block of Suzanne Street, was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, Felony Maintaining a Dwelling for Narcotic Use, Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia, and Child Abuse. Smith was processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center and has since posted bond.

 

During the search warrant officers located a loaded AK-47 rifle under the bed of a two (2) year old child. 

 

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives assisted with this investigation.

 

The anonymous tipster will be eligible for a cash reward from the Fayetteville / Cumberland County Crimestoppers Program for the anonymous information they submitted that resulted in the outcome of this investigation.

If the information provided leads to an arrest, citizens may receive a cash reward, as determined by a citizen board, of as much as $1000. The amount of the reward varies, depending upon factors such as the information given, the nature of the crime committed, and the value of any property or narcotics seized. Crimestoppers also pays cash rewards for any information that results in the arrest of fugitives from justice or anyone committing a felony or serious misdemeanor.
