MLK Jr. / Highway 87 Traffic Fatality Identified as Missing Person

(Fayetteville, NC) – The driver involved in the fatal vehicle crash that occurred along Highway 87 (Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway) has been identified as Darryl Spencer Jr., who had been previously reported missing.

Darryl Spencer Jr. (B/M, 28 years of age), of the 5000 block of Surf Scooter Drive, was reported missing by his family on Saturday, August 3, 2019. Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department located Spencer Jr. on Tuesday, August 13, 2019, while conducting investigative follow-ups on his last known whereabouts.

The crash investigation revealed Spencer Jr.’s vehicle ran off the roadway and down a ravine. As a result of the crash, Spencer Jr. was pronounced deceased on scene.

There is no additional information to release.

 

Traffic Fatality / Road Closure

(Fayetteville, NC) – Inbound Highway 87 (Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway), which was closed between Gillespie Street and Robeson Street due to a vehicle crash resulting in a fatality, has reopened to traffic.

The identity of driver is currently being withheld until immediate family members can be notified.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

 

Traffic Fatality / Road Closure

(Fayetteville, NC) – On Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at approximately 1:41 pm, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a vehicle crash along Highway 87 (Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway) between Gillespie Street and Robeson Street.

The preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle ran off the roadway and down a ravine. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene.

Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit are currently on scene conducting the investigation.

The identity of driver is currently being withheld until immediate family members can be notified.

Highway 87 towards Ramsey Street is currently closed between Gillespie Street and Robeson Street. Motorists are encouraged to take the Eastern Blvd. exit as an alternate route. The roadway is expected to be closed throughout the evening commute.
