Suspect Charged in Homicide Investigation

 

(Fayetteville, NC) - Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Departments Homicide Unit obtained warrants for the arrest of Rodney Montez Blue (B/M, 27 years of age) of the 200 Block of Maxwell Road in Autryville, charging him with 2nd Degree Murder, for the homicide of Lavon McMillian.

 

The Fayetteville Police Departments Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI), and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office were able to take Blue into custody today without incident.

Blue was processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center, where he is being held under no bond.

 

There is no additional information to release.

 

 

Update to Homicide Investigation/Victim Identified

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified the victim that was killed this morning during the shooting that occurred along the 1400 block of Furnish Drive.

 

Lavon Jamel McMillian (B/M, 25 years of age) of the 4000 block of Esteem Court in Hope Mills, succumbed to his injuries at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. His next of kin has been notified.

Homicide Investigation

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – On Thursday, December 12, 2019, at approximately 3:17 am, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a residence along the 1400 block of Furnish Drive in reference to a shooting.

Officers arrived on scene, located the victim on the ground, and began life-saving measures. The victim was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.  

The preliminary investigation revealed there was a large group of people gathering at the residence. After a disturbance began between several subjects, gunfire was exchanged and the victim was struck. 

The name of the victim is currently being withheld pending next of kin notification.

Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit are actively investigating the homicide and request anyone with information contact them.
